Amma in Thiruvannamalai

( During  2001 - 2003 )

A few years ago in Thiruvannamalai, on the holy mount of Arunachala, from a cave on the southern side, an unknown force pulled a lot of people. Many flocked for a Darshan of The Divine Mother Amma.

Soon, Amma came to be known as Cave Amma by the people in and around Thiruvannamalai, and this cave was called as Ammas cave. Crowds were seen walking up the Hill, looking for paths leading to Amma's cave.

Wherever a Saints Presence exists  so does everything revolve around it. Within no time even the less curious ones frequented Ammas cave. There were visitors of all kinds - first time tourists; foreigners; local people; people from cities and some from other far off rural places. Ammas cave grew into a crowded place. Along with the growing number of people coming for Amma's Darshans, a few chose to live around the cave, only so that they could be in close vicinity of The Mothers Presence. People brought offerings of many different kinds. This was mostly shared as Prasad (sacred offering) among the visiting devotees. Up in the cave, there was no availability of even any fresh drinking water leave alone any other kind of basic necessities and amenities. In spite of these harsh conditions Amma chose to remain on the Hill enduring the harshness of the mountain wilderness.

By now, up on the Hill, all the gathering devotees were having Ammas Darshans. These Darshans freely continued, as and when people happened to arrive. Amma never denied Her Presence to anyone - none left empty handed. People flocked from all walks of life - sadhus, sanyasins, swamis, businessmen, householders, workers, women, childrenthere was and is no distinction made among all who came to seek refuge at The Sacred Feet of Amma. Some were earnest aspirants, seeking the Grace of a Master. Many were simple folks of ordinary living having no distinction of a spiritual life and they came to Amma with a simple longing for The Mothers Love and Grace; and there were some who came with great reverence, with the hope of offering their service to their Beloved Amma. All those who came were brought for Darshan, by Ammas Grace alone.

Then, there were some who came for Ammas Darshans but found it very unfamiliar, or they simply couldnt understand the significance of Amma's Presence. A saint can never be understood through the illusive eyes of this world. Already, much was being spoken about the newness of This aspect of Divine Grace. Few even mistook Amma as a tapasvi (renunciate), come for sadhana (spiritual disciplines). Unfortunately the ignorant don't recognize the nature of the Illumined Ones. Little did they know that a divine purpose had purported the Presence of Amma on the Holy Hill.  Ammas Presence was and still Is being shared for the highest benefit of all beings and Ammas exclusivity, shining in the world.

Before Ammas Presence in the cave, Darshans were being held at a devotees house in Thiruvannamalai. It was from here that Amma chose to move up onto the Hill. Amma was on the Hill for almost 2 years; roaming and residing in the caves there. (Please refer to the photo gallery lotus and lily, pictures taken during the time, Amma was on the Hill).

During this time, Cave Amma eventually came to be known as

Aum Amma.

Amma's Presence in other places in India.

Before 2001, the time before Thiruvannamalai, Amma was in Tirupathi. There too devotees flocked for Darshans offering their obeisance to The Divine Mother with great reverence and love. Ammas presence has already graced many places throughout the Holy land of India, right from Kanya Kumari up to Uttarkashi, including the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Tamil Nadu. Over the years, from different parts of India, there have been many devotees frequently visiting Amma. Wherever Amma has been, people have got blessed, transformed, healed - touched by the unique and Precious Grace of The Divine Mother.

Amma in Varanasi

Mostly it was sadhus, sanyasins, devotees from Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, who frequented for Ammas Darshans there. It was in Varanasi that westerners also started visiting Amma, seeking the blessings of The Mother. Varanasi became the defining moment when Amma, allowed the doors to be opened for the entire world, allowing Her Presence accessible to all far and wide, even beyond the boundaries of the India.

Amma in Rishikesh

After nearly 2 years of living on the Hill, in the year 2003, Amma left the cave and reached Rishikesh. Once again in Rishikesh, Amma lived in conditions devoid of basic necessities. Swami Samahitananda who has been serving Amma over the years often narrates how difficult the weather conditions had become. Swamiji explains how Amma and he were residing in a tent, way atop a hill a few kilometres away from the main town of Rishikesh. During the winter months the cold grew brutal and almost unbearable but Amma continued to be in the tent for almost until the end of January 2004. This in itself is astounding, for even under normal conditions, it is impossible to survive the severe cold in open altitudes. This worried a few devotees, after much persuasion from them, Swamiji too agreed and Amma moved down from the hill and took rest in a devotee's house in the town of Rishikesh. After a while, Amma once again returned back to South India.

Amma in Auroville

During the return from Rishikesh, Amma stopped and stayed in a devotees farm in Auroville for a few days. Here too a lot of visitors started to come for The Divine Mother's Darshan. It was from here that Amma finally returned to Thiruvannamalai again.

Thiruvannamalai again

The come back to Thiruvannamalai somehow marked the advent of a new purpose to be unfolded. But the first few months, the return of Amma's physical presence in Thiruvannamalai remained clandestine as per Amma's Divine Will and Lila (divine play). Later, mysteriously enough, people heard of Ammas return - word spread fast. By this time Amma had moved to another house where Darshans started again. many devotees, who had been dearly longing for Amma's Darshan, could finally go for Darshan again.

Soon, the secret Will of Beloved Amma brought about another change. Amma moved to a cottage. It was here that Ammas Darshans became more alive than ever, with flowers, Aarti, Bhajans and Prasad. These were the Sunday Darshans. All over again, the crowds started to grow. People were visiting Amma even during the week. Some devotees came to the cottage in the morning and left in the evenings - a situation similar to that in the cave seemed to be manifesting once again. Often devotees would have their meals there too. Swamiji was more than happy to make sure that no one went hungry at Amma's cottage.

Aum Amma's present Abode is near Adi Annamalai Village.

Miraculous manifestations of Aum Amma

There are certain divine manifestations that have a unique significance as regards to The Supreme Mother. Aum Amma is most unlike other Saints. Devotees have seen an exceptional phenomenon during Darshans There is miraculous manifestation of the symbol Aum \ mantra which appears shining on Amma's forehead. This manifestation in itself is quite an unusual, rare and unknown phenomenon; distinctive to Amma only, bringing the name...

Aum Amma

The mantra \ (Aum) appears shining on Ammas forehead.

This mantra has never appeared before in such a way on any Sage.

Namah Aum Kara Roopaya Namaha

All this world is the symbol Aum (Om). Its further explanation is this; the past the present and the future everything is just Aum and whatever is beyond these three periods of time is also just Aum.     (Mandukya Upanishad).

The Pranava is the symbol of Brahman. It is the word of Power. From Aum this world is projected, in Aum it exists and in Aum it dissolves during Cosmic Pralaya. Aum is the essence of all the Four Vedas.     (Sivajnanamrita Upanishad).

Significance of Aum has been glorified in the Vedas, Upanishads and other Ancient Texts too.  "Namah Aum Kara Roopaya Namaha" simply indicates, to That we offer our obeisance, the embodied Form of Aum.

Aum, the primal sound, the symbol of which is \

That which is the source sound of creation,

Amma, Mother without whom creation is not possible,

both have incarnated as One,

Aum Amma.

Aum Amma, Paramathma Jyothi

Aum Amma Paramathma Jyothi, (refer video clip Pranava Darshan). This video clip was shot during one of Ammas Darshan, it was quite dark inside the cave as there wasnt much natural light pouring in. A sudden flicker of light started emanating from Amma's eyes, this unique moment has got captured in this video. In the other videos the Light of Aum can be seen very clearly shining of Amma's Forehead. (Refer video clips Divya, Paramathma and Pada Pooja).

Aum Amma, Mother of the Whole Universe,

The Most Beloved Mother

Aum Amma, The Living Form of God

The Manifestation of Truth

Aum Amma, The Living Form of Bliss

Divine manifested Aum Karam

The Holy Mother's Presence is the guiding Light in our lives. As it is said, 'when the student is ready, the Teacher appears', so also when the Soul is ready, by the Mother's Grace alone, is it brought in the vicinity of Amma. Without the blessings of Para-Sakthi, Paramatma cannot be realised. In our search for Truth it is the Divine Grace of the Amma (embodiment of Para-Sakthi) that unveils the Source - AUM (embodiment of Paramathma) to us, where both have incarnated as ONE in the Form of our Beloved Aum Amma.

Our humble prostrations to Thee our most Beloved One,

Aum Amma

May Thy Grace be with us, forever and ever.
